Signal 13 – Call to Action Newsletter – January 2023
The Signal 13 Foundation wishes all our supporters and friends a Happy New Year and prosperous 2023. We are grateful for so many things, but mostly for our loyal group of advocates who believe so strongly in our mission and who stand with Baltimore City Police and their families. Police have a difficult and dangerous job, and they need all the support they can get. Thank you!
2023 marks the 40th anniversary of Signal 13 and it is only appropriate to kick off this milestone the week we are celebrating National Law Enforcement Appreciation Days. Be sure to thank a police officer if you see one or post a positive message on social media. A small gesture of appreciation goes a long way.
There are too many brave heroes in the police department to name here, but, for the men and women we’ve helped in recent years, thank you for your service. Detective Brandon Bolt was shot in the line of duty in November 2020 and his terrified wife Kasima reached out to Signal 13 for help. The Bolts have a young daughter with another child on the way. Signal 13 CEO Nancy Hinds sat down with the family to talk about that experience and how they are doing now.
Heroes Salute Fundraiser at Jimmy’s Famous Seafood
Signal 13 will honor all of Baltimore’s finest on February 5th during a Heroes Salute Fundraiser at Jimmy’s Famous Seafood, including Sergeant Kenneth Ramberg who was severely injured in the line of duty during a traffic stop in June. Thanks to your support, Signal 13 was able to help Sergeant Ramberg in significant ways during his slow recovery. Sergeant Ramberg will be there on February 5th to share his story so please consider buying a table. You can keep the 10 tickets or give them away to police. The event runs 4-8 p.m. For more information on how you can support the event, please contact Nancy Hinds at [email protected] or call 443-442-7576
Sergeant Isaac Carrington Three Years Later
Sergeant Isaac Carrington is a true hero who faces adversity with courage and strength. He continues to struggle with health complications and has been in and out of the hospital. We shared his story in November but feel it is worth sharing again in case you missed it.
Signal 13 Scholarship Recipients
Sergeant Carrington’s daughter is a recipient of a Signal 13 scholarship, one of more than 80 kids from police families who applied for the 2022-23 school year. Like so many parents, police struggle to pay for college. Providing a scholarship for their kids is important to many families living on a modest budget. Signal 13 would like to do more in the future, but every little bit helps, especially for Signal 13 scholarship recipients Maggie and Caleb Scarborough and Julius and Jeremiah Lynch.
Turkeys For Cops on Thanksgiving
And finally, thank you to the Atlas Restaurant Group and our sponsors for providing the funding to buy 1100 turkeys for Baltimore City Police personnel, both sworn and civilian. Signal 13 and the Atlas Restaurant Group distributed the turkeys over two days the week of Thanksgiving. It was such a rewarding experience for everyone involved and the recipients were so grateful for the support. It’s become an annual tradition we hope to continue.
Thank you for your support of Signal 13. We look forward to making an even bigger impact in the lives of Baltimore City Police in 2023! To support Baltimore City Police and their families, please click on the donate button below.
