Signal 13 – Call to Action Newsletter – July 2023

Please Show Your Support For Police
Police in Baltimore deserve our thanks and appreciation for doing a tough job under challenging conditions. That is why Signal 13 is celebrating police on September 30th with a Family Day at the Maryland Zoo! Your support is needed to make this special day at the Zoo a huge success for police and their families. Signal 13 wants to invite as many police officers as possible, but we need more sponsors to do it. This is the perfect way to say thank you to all the men and women in the Baltimore Police Department who work long hours and miss many holidays with their families to keep us safe. The Signal 13 Foundation is proud of its partnership with the police for the past 40 years. Please click here to learn more about the event and sponsorship opportunities.

Honoring Two Legends
Leonard Attman and Henry Rosenberg are true icons in Baltimore’s business community. These successful businessmen and generous philanthropists are also legends here at Signal 13. After serving on the Board of Directors for more than 30 years, both are moving to Emeritus status. As Leonard Attman put it recently, it doesn’t mean they are going away, they are just taking a step back. Leonard and Henry join Pam Lapides, Signal 13’s first female Board President, in this elite class. Pam stepped off the Board last fall after serving almost 40 years. Pictured are current Board President Barb Clapp with Leonard Attman and his grandson Jonathan (also a Signal 13 Board Director); and Past President Sean O’Conor with Henry Rosenberg.

A Salute to Signal 13 for 40 years of Service
Signal 13 was literally on center stage and in the spotlight at a Baltimore Police spring awards ceremony for officers. Signal 13 was honored for its 40 years of dedicated service to the men and women in blue. Signal 13 CEO Nancy Hinds and Police Liaison Jerry Heid accepted the award on behalf of the Signal 13 Board of Directors. It was a very moving night with a video that says it all about the work we do and how much our support means to our first responders.

A Dangerous Job They Love
Members of the BPD canine and bomb squad teams drop everything if they are called into service, no matter the time of day. If they get the call, they go into action, and countless lives have been saved because of it.  At a recent Signal 13 Board meeting at their training site, this elite group showed off their skills and Board Director Frances Reaves was among the many who were very impressed. It’s easy to understand why the federal government and other police departments come to Baltimore for training from the best in the business.
